Me Made Monday: Sweater Kimono DIY

Kimono Cardi Kimono Cardi Kimono Cardi

I purchased a Girl Charlee June Knit Fix, and I received two yards of this stretch sweater knit. At first I wasn't sure what to do with it. But the idea came to my mind that a Kimono style cardi would look good. And, hey, why not share a DIY out of it! So here it goes.

Click after the jump.

Take one to two yards of fabric. I used one yard for my smaller bone structure.

Kimono Cardi
Measure 10 inches down from the fold, on the outside of each side (these will be your armholes).

Kimono Cardi
Then measure 6 inches in from the bottom of your armhole (This will create your sleeve).

Kimono Cardi
Then pin a straight line down from the armpit part of your sleeve, all the way to the bottom of your fabric.

This is how it should look after you cut out what you pinned. Now you have sleeves.

Then you will need to measure to find the dead center of the fabric. Once you do, cut up the center, only on the top layer of fabric, leaving an inch at the top towards the fold.

Now we need to sew our sleeves together. Right sides facing. What I did was serge my sleeve, armpit, and side seem all at once, then I sewed it to reinforce.

You will then want to hem or roll hem your arm holes, opening, and bottom of the cardi.

I absolutely adore the windows in the last picture. That house is so charming.
