I Heart Collars

A couple weeks ago, The Sew Weekly had a collar challenge. I participated, but barely. Life has happened. Family emergencies have taken priority and have swallowed my emotions. But I pushed through the week and submitted my challenge.  Read here:

The “Life Happens” Babydoll Dress

I love the contrast of the black and the sheer blue of my babydoll dress, I also love the polka dots! What I don’t love is how this babydoll looks like maternity wear when I wear it without a belt. I feel like it’s awkward shaped to be worn as a dress, and too long to be worn as a shirt. So I think I will be taking it in and shortening it. This was very simple to make and got through fairly quickly. It’s actually been done for a few weeks. Thank goodness.
I love collars. I especially love Peter Pan collars. I know they make me look younger than I am, but seriously, they are just to cute to avoid. I am always happy to find a new top or dress with a collar that I can mimic. I was inspired by a few looks I saw in catalogs to make my babydoll.

I prefer this babydoll belted for now. If I so choose to shorten it, then a belt wont be necessary. As you can tell I love to wear my mint wedges with EVERYTHING! Seriously, my favorite shoes. We found this grove of Eucalyptus trees by our Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. It was the best we could do without putting M.E. in danger since we were with out a babysitter yet again. This is getting harder and harder to find a place to pose when you live in a conservative town, where every building looks the same and you have a 2 year old. What’s a fashionista to do?
With all that has been going on within my family lately, I don’t think I would have been able to complete this challenge. I am still bummed out about last weeks challenge. I felt like I had failed myself. This week, I am just worn out and really trying to stay positive no matter the outcomes in life. Recently more unexpected family emergencies emerged and we are suddenly finding ourselves in a predicament we were not prepared for. Is anyone though? Ugh….I don’t mean to get everyone down. I have faith that things will work out for the best and we will get through this, and we will be better and stronger because of it. A heads up, I wont be able to participate in next weeks challenge, but I hopefully will be able to take part in the challenges after. i am excited to see everyone’s collared pieces!

So I have already shortened my babydoll top, and am currently working on making it a cute and much more flattering top. I shall reveal soon.
